The New Liberator

History in Your Hands: Uncover the Truth, Shape the Future.

This virtual newspaper draws inspiration from the legacy of William Lloyd Garrison’s The Liberator. First published on January 1, 1831, The Liberator swiftly became the leading abolitionist newspaper in the United States. It was a bold and uncompromising platform for condemning slavery, challenging its defenders, and advocating for the full equality of all people.

In that same spirit, the mission of this publication is to remind white people of their moral duty to actively dismantle white supremacy and combat anti-Blackness. Now more than ever, it is imperative that we be bold, radical, and unapologetic in resisting the rise of white nationalist ideologies and the government structures that support them.

This is not a moment for finger-pointing or turning away from uncomfortable truths. It’s all too easy to assign blame, but real progress demands that we focus on building solidarity, fostering communication, and uniting with others who share the vision of a country that lives up to its founding ideals of justice, equality, and freedom for all.

Objectives of The New Liberator Newspaper

  • Using History to Inform the Future
  • Challenge White Supremacy and Anti-Blackness
  • Resisting Fascism
  • Engagement and Collaboration

“I will be harsh as truth, and as uncompromising as justice. On the subject of slavery I do not wish to think, or speak, or write, with moderation. No! no! Tell a man whose house is on fire, to give a moderate alarm; tell him to moderately rescue his wife from the hands of the ravisher; tell the mother to gradually extricate her babe from the fire into which it has fallen; but urge me not to use moderation in a cause like the present. I am in earnest-I will not equivocate-I will not excuse-I will not retreat a single inch-AND I WILL BE HEARD”

William Llyod Garrison
